TED, the popular organization known for its thought leader conferences, today is launching a new social platform to augment its reach beyond the current five-day long, 1300-attendee conference. One of the more fascinating sessions was the first, which touched on how social media is offering a continuous feedback loop for organizations, particularly when it comes to customer service. As Pete Blackshaw (@pblackshaw), formerly of NM Incite but recently (as in Friday) named Nestle’s Global Digital Chief, said: "Customer service is THE #1 driver of organizational external communication.” The audience couldn’t seem to agree more.

Typical questions about expected outcomes from a community may still center around reach metrics. How many people am I reaching? How many eyeballs am I catching with my messages? The comprehensive answer includes reach (unique visitors, community members, etc.), engagement (i.e., conversations among fans and your brand) and search rankings. And your search listings are related to reach and engagement.

Any user can ask any question.
